The
Alexander Technique
Every man, woman and child holds the possibility of physical perfection;
it rests with each of us to attain it by personal understanding
and effort.
--F.M. Alexander
Poor postural habits are not structural or genetic, but behavioral
responses to everyday physical demands. F.M. Alexander discovered
there are reflex systems in the body that naturally coordinate us.
Only when we consciously change our behavior can we gain control
of the reflexes that allow us to move with the dynamic support of
our whole bodies. The Alexander Technique teaches us to identify
and change learned habits that limit our natural coordination.
I believe the Alexander Technique is the most physiologically accurate
look at the postural mechanism that has ever been discovered. We
cannot learn how the living body works through dissection alone.
We must come to understand how the mind and body interact to create
coordinated movement, through challenging our own bodies to work
to their fullest capacity.
